Our Caliper Painting Process
Every caliper paint job at Kartal Auto follows the same eight-step process. Surface preparation is where most caliper paint jobs fail — we never skip it.
Caliper Assessment
Each caliper is inspected for existing damage, corrosion, or brake fluid leaks. Any existing paint is assessed — if failing, it is fully stripped before repainting. If the existing paint is sound, the surface is prepared for bonding. Any caliper showing a fluid leak is flagged to the client before any cosmetic work proceeds.
Surface Preparation
The caliper surface is cleaned of all brake dust, grease, and contamination using a brake cleaner and a dedicated degreaser. Any rust or corrosion is treated. The surface is scuffed with the correct abrasive grade to provide a mechanical key for the primer and paint layers. This stage determines adhesion — it cannot be rushed.
Primer Application
A high-temperature primer is applied to the prepared caliper surface. The primer provides additional adhesion between the bare metal and the colour coat, improves corrosion resistance, and ensures a uniform base for the colour coat above it. Primer is allowed to flash-dry fully before the colour coat is applied.
Colour Coat Application
The 600°C-rated caliper paint is applied in multiple thin coats, allowing flash time between each. The number of coats is determined by the colour — whites and yellows typically require more coats for full opacity than darker colours. For two-tone or lettering jobs, the masking is adjusted between colour applications.
